Apple Cider Vinegar

I am a big believer in the benefits of apple cider vinegar and wanted to put as much as possible into my drink without making taste too strong. That's why there is over 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in every can of Sleep Toniq. I have found this to be the perfect ratio that makes the drink pleasant and effective, whilst removing the need to take apple cider vinegar shots at any other point in the day.

Even though apple cider vinegar is now a hugely popular health and wellness product, I think people only have a vague understanding of what it really is…

A Journey Through History:

Apple cider vinegar traces its origins to ancient civilizations. Dating back to around 5000 BC, the Babylonians were known to ferment fruits to make vinegar, including apples. Throughout history, it was valued for its medicinal properties. Ancient Egyptians used it as an antiseptic, while Hippocrates, the father of medicine, utilized vinegar for its potential health benefits. Even in biblical times, it was recognized as a powerful cleansing agent.

Production Process:

The production of apple cider vinegar involves a two-step fermentation process. First, crushed apples are combined with yeast, which ferments the sugars and converts them into alcohol. This stage results in hard apple cider. Next, bacteria are introduced to the cider, transforming the alcohol into acetic acid. This acidic environment gives apple cider vinegar its distinct sour taste and pungent aroma. High-quality ACV is unfiltered and unpasteurized, retaining the "mother" – a cloudy substance composed of beneficial enzymes, proteins, and bacteria.

Potential Health Benefits:

While scientific research is ongoing, apple cider vinegar has shown promising health benefits:

Blood Sugar Control: Some studies suggest that ACV may help lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity, making it potentially beneficial for individuals with diabetes or insulin resistance.

Weight Management: ACV may contribute to weight loss by promoting a feeling of fullness, reducing calorie intake, and improving metabolism. However, it should be noted that it is not a magic solution and should be used in conjunction with a balanced diet and exercise.

Heart Health: Some research suggests that ACV may help lower cholesterol and blood pressure levels, contributing to heart health. However, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional before making any significant dietary changes.

We source our Apple Cider Vinegar from an orchard in Hampshire. They make a variety of products from the apples that grow on their land, including cider and apple juice.
